There are many things that can be said about Melvin: many stories and examples to be mentioned but I would have to write a novel in order to fit them all in, so for now I will settle for just a few truths about Melvin Mills.
Melvin has always been a hard working man; Kenny (his brother and fellow co-owner) took over the company for their father John Mills Sr. after he had heart surgery. They took a company from humble beginnings and made it a household name in the Fredericksburg area. Often times Melvin has worked 12 hour days in the field personally taking care of the intricate details on every job. This isn’t laborious to him because he truly enjoys and loves what he does which shows through all of his craftsmanship.
As far as skill goes, Melvin is one of the greatest craftsman that I’ve ever seen in action. He comes up with creative ways to get jobs done effeciently while making it aesthetically pleasing to the eye. He is able to look at things and figure out how they work and the best way to install them just from looking. He is truly gifted!
He has always been known for his generosity. He consistently goes on missions trips to build churches for poor communities in Mexico and other areas. He has personally offered his skilled work for wounded veteran projects and other charity organizations. Not only that but he always goes out of his way to take care of his family. While him and his wife Stephanie have not had any children of their own they have treated their nephews and nieces as their own children.
Lastly, Melvin is a fighter (in a good way). He recently overcame his battle with lung cancer with his wife Stephanie faithfully at his side. They say behind every good man is a good woman and this is absolutely true of Stephanie Mills. He has always been a fighter and has always fought for the well being of his family. In grade school if anyone picked on his younger sister Betty he would step in and defend her. He has fought for a better future for his family members through his hard work and dedication.
I could continue on for hours with personal stories of Melvin’s hard work, generosity and tenacity. Mills Roofing is the best company there is because of those who lead it. You won’t find any harder working men than Melvin and Kenny Mills. Two brothers that by their own hands built a legacy for their family.
