Fall in Fredericksburg

Ahh the beautiful season of fall in Fredericksburg. Leaves changing to bright crisp colors, harvest festivals, Thanksgiving, pumpkins, more pumpkins and everything pumpkin. It's finally here! In honor of such a beautiful season, here are a few great things to do in Fredericksburg or near the area to celebrate!

1. Apple/ Pumpkin Picking

Fredericksburg has the luxury of being so close to the Blue Ridge mountains, which offers up some of the most spectacular farms and mountains to go visit a pumpkin patch or find the best apple cider in the state! Many times these places will have pony rides for kids, petting zoos, and even some good old live bluegrass music! Graves Mountain is a popular location that is not too far away, but is seemingly perfectly nestled into the mountains. Make sure to try an apple donut while you're there!

2. Hiking

Hiking and camping in the summer is one thing, but hiking in the fall is a whole other world. Cooler temperatures provide for an easier hike with a different view every step and every day due to the changing colors of the leaves. Fredericksburg offers it's own local hiking trails at the Rappahannock river and Alum Springs or you can drive to some beautiful hikes. Mcaffee's Knob and Spy Rock are two incredible MUST DO hikes for the fall and are worth the short drives!

3. Braehead Farm

Pick your own fields, hayrides, a corn maze, and there is definitely more at this quaint family farm in the Fredericksburg area. It is a delightful spot that is made for families and children. Pack a lunch for the day and have a picnic with your family after picking your own pumpkins from the pumpkin patch.

4. Belvedere Plantation

Another amazing family farm with harvest festivals. Hay rides galore, with other fun activities for the kids, such as mini train rides, mazes, and great food. Pick your own pumpkins here and then toast some marshmallows at a campfire site on the plantation.

5. "Scarecrows are Coming"

This may sound a little scary, but it's actually a new tradition that of Downtown Fredericksburg that is so much fun for family and friends. Restaurants and shops of Downtown will be placing scarecrows in their windows for you to come out to see and vote for your favorites in different categories.

Get together with your family and friends and enjoy the beautiful season of fall in Fredericksburg this year! Let us know what some of your favorite activities are, we love to hear from you.
